How to Become a Great Student Leader Through a Healthy Self-Worth

Your college students may be quietly struggling with low self-worth. They may hide it well, but constant academic pressure, social media comparisons, and imposter syndrome can take a toll.

These struggles may show up as stress, self-doubt, and giving up too soon. This isn’t a small problem. It’s a hidden one that Gene understands far too well.

At 11 years old, Gene’s dad made him a promise: “I will never leave.” Two weeks later, he was gone. That broken promise planted a seed of low self-worth that Gene carried silently for years, because he blamed himself for his daddy leaving the family.

His leadership journey began in college after he overcame the low self-worth that stemmed from that traumatic experience. As a result, he deeply understands the feelings of unworthiness that many college students struggle with.

Developing a healthy self-worth allowed him to become a leader not just in college, but throughout his corporate, non-profit, and entrepreneur careers. Leadership roles include:

  • Captain of the College Freshman Basketball Team

  • Creator and Facilitator of Freshman Seminars as a College Student

  • Award-Winning Resident Assistant

  • Student Assistant Basketball Coach

  • Corporate Wellness Program Manager

  • Corporate Fitness Gym Manager

  • Nonprofit Clinical Fitness Manager

  • Leader of Basketball Programs for At-Risk Youth

  • Leader of Life and Career Skills Development Workshops in Juvenile Detention Centers

Today, he is the author of WORTHY TO BE GREAT, a speaker, and a self-worth and leadership coach who helps college students develop their leadership skills through a healthy sense of self-worth.

His keynote, “How to Become a Great Student Leader Through a Healthy Self-Worth,” presents the Self-Worth Blueprint for Developing Student Leaders.

During the keynote your students will learn practical knowledge and skills to:

  • Self-assess effectively to identify old hurts hindering leadership growth and become the leader they once felt unworthy of becoming

  • Avoid making emotional decisions so their calm becomes their power that keeps them from destroying leadership opportunities

  • Overcome imposter syndrome and develop self-belief to pursue leadership roles in college and their chosen career field

  • Resolve conflicts through active listening so that people feel heard to maintain trust and strong relationships within their team
